Join us for a special screening of the feature documentary The Secret Life of Lance Letscher, a deeply personal and psychological portrait of the internationally recognized collagist, Lance Letscher. The film follows the artist as he prepares to transition from intricately cut paper collage to metal, creating a large-scale mural on the iconic stretch of South Congress Avenue in his hometown of Austin, Texas.

In her directorial debut, Sandra Adair shares a meticulously crafted exploration of Letscher’s life and work – giving audiences an unprecedented look into the mind of one of the contemporary art world’s most captivating figures.

The screening will be followed by an Artist Talk with the artist himself, in conversation with Franny Koelsch Jeffries and Anise Medina from Houston’s koelsch gallery. As the three delve into Letscher’s creative process, personal journey, and use of materials, attendees are encouraged to ask questions and participate at their choosing. Following the event, there will be a reception at koelsch gallery beginning at 6:00 pm.

About Lance Letscher:

Lance Letscher is a contemporary collagist based in Austin, Texas. He is known for transforming found and discarded materials into meticulously constructed compositions, fueled by a juxtaposition of color and value. His use of layered imagery generates an illusion of light and space, converting the once two-dimensional compositions into three-dimensional illusions. He has exhibited extensively across the United States and abroad, including Texas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, London, Brussels, Munich, Barcelona, and Paris. Along with the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, his work is held in more than 30 selected collections nationwide.
